I should like to avail myself of...
I should like to avail myself of the privilege of testifying to the healing and protecting power of Christian Science. Since the day, six years ago, when I turned to Christian Science in my extremity, I have experienced a continuous unfoldment of good, and have learned that it is possible right here and now, regardless of the circumstances, to obey Mrs. Eddy's injunction (Science and Health, p. 227), "Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free!"
During my high school days I was in bondage to one ailment after another, until in my last year of school I became a semi-invalid. I was treated by several physicians, but like the woman in the Bible I "was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." An internationally famous specialist diagnosed my case as curvature of the spine, and informed me that my only chance of recovery lay in a major operation, although even that, instead of helping me, might make the condition worse.
Then I turned as a last resort to Christian Science. I knew almost nothing about it, except that it had healed a friend of tuberculosis. I wrote to his practitioner, whom I had never met, and did not meet until several weeks later, and asked her what she could do for me. She immediately began treatment, and sometime within the next three days I was completely healed.
