Truth's Appearing

The dawning of day, with its gentle light dispelling darkness, with its songs of birds and sounds of renewed activity, is one of the most welcome recurrent experiences of life. Few there be who do not associate morning with enjoyment, who do not meet it with responsive zest.

In Christian Science the dawning of Truth upon the human consciousness is likewise gentle and quiet, dispelling the gloom of mortal sense even more naturally than night gives way to day. For the eternal presence of divine Life and Love needs no other greeting than happy recognition of the fact. In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 567): "The Gabriel of His presence has no contests. To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death."

The revelation of a new idea is always a joyous, harmonious experience. Who has not felt quickened, in his school days, by the presentation of a fact which dispelled an ignorant concept? There follows the recognition that there was never any actual pleasure in the ignorant concept. For instance, the discovery that the earth is round removed the limitations and consequent fears attendant upon the belief that it was flat. So the discovery of Truth as the only actual consciousness of man removes the restrictions—and fears—of believing oneself mortal, personal, limited.
