The System of Christian Science

Some system or method enters beneficially into most of our human activities, although the system must not be so rigid as to stifle new ideas and fresh inspiration. It is helpful for a home or a business to be run systematically and methodically. System is needed in a factory, and in conducting the campaigns that are necessary to bring freedom to the world; our leaders need to get together periodically in order to co-ordinate their system or method.

Christian Science too has a system, and it is stated in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science. For instance, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she writes (p.460), "Our system of Mind-healing rests on the apprehension of the nature and essence of all being.—on the divine Mind and Love's essential qualities." In order to understand and apply the system of Mind-healing or Christian Science, therefore it is necessary to apprehend God, divine Mind, and the essential qualities of Love.

The nature of God is clearly defined by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health as follows (p.465): "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle. Life. Truth, Love." But it may here be noted that the order in which these synonyms for God are given has no particular significance, for on page 587 of the same book they are arranged differently.
