Sunday School Notes and Comments

"Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." So spoke our great Teacher and Way-shower, according to Luke's Gospel. A close study of the life and works of Christ Jesus gives the inspiration which we all need in order to help the children to gain a better understanding of Christian Science in our Sunday schools.

Great good comes to pupils through the careful study and application of the Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, as given on pages 16 and 17 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by MarxBaker Eddy, and the Sermon on the Mount, which are definitely designated by our Leader in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. XX, Sect. 3) as the "first lessons" for the children. These passages are essential in teaching the children Christian Science. They are the foundations upon which to build a higher understanding of Christ, Truth, and they should therefore never become a mere repetition of words. Intelligently applied, they present constant unfoldment.

Mrs. Eddy further specifies in the Manual (ibid.), "The next lessons consist of such questions and answers as are adapted to a juvenile class, and may be found in the Christian Science Quarterly Lessons, read in Church services." A child is naturally receptive to the truth. In view of the conflicting forces of mortal mind that are coming to the surface today to be destroyed, we, as teachers, have an inspiring opportunity in our work of helping the children to gain an understanding of the Christ, Truth, in our Sundayschools. It is of paramount importance that we gain the children's view of the problems with which they are confronted, so that they may be shown early in life how to meet them through the application of Christian Science.
