True Service

Wake us to see the pillar of Thy fire!
Let us not sit, O God, in dotish ease,
Lest liberty and courage may expire.
Destroy our selfishness, our will to please
Our sensual selves; lift us again to see
The joy of sacrificing self, the love
Of virtues. Give such zeal that evils flee
Before a valor that can rise above
All fear, trusting triumphantly in Thee.
Helps us to see all power in Thee alone;
That to align ourselves with Thee is might.
Help us to seek no other cause, but own
The joyous duty to establish right.
While any dare their all to give truth birth,
Civilization cannot die from earth.
