Truth and Law
When humanity sees spiritual truth as law and law as truth, it will have discovered the way of overcoming every phase of evil. It will also be convinced that the healing of disease must be by spiritual, not material means. This conviction is deeply reassuring, for none can reasonably doubt that the combination of Truth and law can reach and destroy the mortal beliefs which claim to impose sin and disease, poverty and death, upon unenlightened human beings.
In "The People's Idea of God" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 12): "The only law of sickness or death is a law of mortal belief, an infringement on the merciful and just government of God. When this great fact is understood, the spurious, imaginary laws of matter — when matter is not a lawgiver — will be disputed and trampled under the feet of Truth."
Then instead of believing that the unrepealable divine right to holiness, health, and happiness is trampled upon by man-made beliefs misnamed law, humanity will rise up and demand its freedom from all oppression in the name of Truth and law, and will set itself to merit the freedom it demands. Men will then regard all discord as an attempted infringement on the government of God, good, and will resist this infringement from the spiritual, scientific standpoint which Christian Science presents. Rising above all egotism, they will bring their thoughts and aims under the beneficent government of Truth and law, and so discover that "the kingdom of God is within you." And when this heaven is "within" the regenerated consciousness, nothing from without can rob one of it.
