There have been times when, though alone, I have entertained many friends. They have come to my home from all parts of the world and have helped me and conversed with me when often I could not speak their language. Though I have never seen them, they are my friends. They have shared with me their personal experiences, intimate details of their lives, and I have rejoiced with them. That is why I want to return their visits and enter their homes, too, through the columns of the Christian Science Sentinel's testimonies of healing.
About thirteen years ago, having suffered from a nervous breakdown, I turned to the Bible and found great strength and comfort in passages from Isaiah and the Psalms. For the first time I turned to God as a practical, daily source of help and struggled to rise above weakness and disability. My thirst for spiritual water springs was satisfied in a degree by the reading of religious books of inspired writers. Later on, when I picked up a copy of Science and Health by
Mrs. Eddy in a friend's room and read the chapter on Prayer, I realized that my quest was ended. Gratitude replaced self-pity and complaint; physical strength returned. The hunger for spiritual truth is being satisfied, and my sense of aloneness in the search is being dispelled by the knowledge that there are thousands of others all over the world who have felt the same need and found the same sanctuary. Christian Science is giving me an inner peace and joy that was before unknown. It has helped me to take up my tasks as a wife, a homekeeper, and a mother of four children, with confidence in a present God, who "is thy shade upon thy right hand." The desire for entertainment and many activities outside of the home has subsided into a contented state of knowing that God supplies our every need each day, and uses us to glorify Himself and to heal and happify the world.
