Report of Christian Science Organization at the University of California, Los Angeles

Christian Science Organization at the University of...

Christian Science Organization at the University of California, Los Angeles, was organized in July, 1922. Religious organizations have always been barred by state law from holding meetings on the campus of the university. Therefore, it has been necessary for the organization to find accommodation for meetings elsewhere. Our present need is met by rooms in the Y. W. C. A. building. Each Monday afternoon the auditorium of the Y. W. C. A. building is used for our meetings.

It is often thought we have literature for sale, as in a branch church, but this is not so. No literature is sold.

The membership of Christian Science Organization at the University of California, Los Angeles, is made up of teachers and students in the university and of graduates or alumni. One can be a member of our organization and of a branch church or society at the same time. Since a college organization and a branch church or society fill different needs, there is perfect harmony in belonging to and working for both. We have three types of membership: active members, "fellow" members (those who are not members of The Mother Church), and alumni members (those who are graduates of the university or who have withdrawn and wish to keep in touch with the organization). Only members in the first classification can vote or hold office. But the first two classes of members may serve on committees and attend business meetings.
