I am very grateful to God, our Father-Mother; to His Son, Christ Jesus, who has shown us the way; and to Mary Baker Eddy, who, divinely inspired, has revealed Christian Science to us, and whose book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" helps us to understand the Bible.

I had aspired to an ideal; I had searched for it and thought I had found it, but I soon perceived that it was not "founded upon a rock," for I was constantly subject to neurasthenic attacks, which had manifested themselves since I was twelve years old. And the more I tried to fathom what I considered life, the more these attacks of depression seemed to increase. Then, after some years, I arrived at that point where "man's extremity is God's opportunity." It was then that Christian Science was presented to me. I did not accept it at once, for fear of being thought a sectarian. However, I knew intuitively that this was the path I should follow, and little by little I took up the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, which comforted me greatly. The glimmer of light that I received was truly a revelation. My contact with practitioners, for whom I feel deep gratitude, was very precious to me. In order to be freed, I had to recognize my relationship to God, and it was with joy that I learned that the divine Principle of man is God, Love, whose creation is harmonious only, and who does not create grief, depression, or discord of any kind. As those attacks of depression ceased, I lost my fear of being a sectarian, for I realized that nothing could be wider and deeper than this beautiful religion.

My attention was particularly drawn to the great importance which Christian Science attaches to right thinking, and I find it helpful to remember the words of Mrs. Eddy on page 210 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," "There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness." This passage has helped me on many occasions.
