It is from a sense of deep appreciation for the good that has come to me since I took up the study of Christian Science, and also because of the desire to encourage others who might be in my former unfortunate condition, that I gladly testify to some of my own healings, particularly those that came to me in the early days of my experience.

At the outset I feel that it is only just and fair to express my appreciation of the earnestness and sincerity of the doctors of several different schools of medicine who attended me previous to the time when I began the study of Christian Science.

From early childhood I suffered periodically from asthma which I was supposed to have inherited from a grandfather. In the hope that a milder climate would be beneficial to me, my family moved to the South when I was five years of age. The only result of this change was that my attacks of asthma were not so frequent as they were in the colder climate of Maine. My grammar and high school work was continually interrupted by spells of sickness, until eventually I was taken out of high school. Later on a desire for a college education took me to Chicago, where I prepared for and entered a university. Here for four years the asthma attacks continued as before.
