In your issue of today a doctor, speaking at the Colston...

Western Daily Press

In your issue of today a doctor, speaking at the Colston Hall, is reported as describing Christian Science as "an evil-smelling 'ism' popularized by the devil himself." The mere repetition of these words is quite sufficient to enable any fair-minded reader to realize that the opinion of this speaker is not to be relied upon, at any rate, as far as Christian Science is concerned.

The Christian Science church was founded in 1879, when it was voted "to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 17). This object has been attained in very great measure in the healing of sin, sickness, and discord of every kind.

The wisdom of Gamaliel is still appropriate: "And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
