In a recent lecture on Christian Science the thought of...
In a recent lecture on Christian Science the thought of angels was so clearly and beautifully explained that it recalled to my thought the first healing that was experienced in our home through the application of Christian Science treatment.
My husband was stricken with a very acute pain in the back of his head and neck. We thought at first that a slight cold had settled there, and that it was simply a case of stiff neck. But each day he grew worse. All the time we were applying material remedies. Finally, after a week or ten days the pain had increased and had gone down into his shoulders and arms, and he could scarcely move his head without a great deal of suffering. His work was in an office making up pay rolls, which required him to turn his head from side to side. I shall always be grateful that we did not consult a physician. I was sitting one afternoon wondering what we should do to get relief for him when a thought so forceful and strong that it seemed like a voice speaking over my shoulder said, Ask him to try Christian Science. We knew nothing about Christian Science, although we were not at all antagonistic. But the mortal thought came back at this voice and said, He wouldn't think of such a thing. Immediately this angel-visitant spoke again and said, Call him up and see. I did. And he said he would do anything or try anything to get relief, for he could not stand the pain much longer.
A Christian Science family lived across the street. I went over to talk to them and to learn how to get help, if we could. I called a practitioner, and she asked me if we would like to have her give him an absent treatment; I told her to do it if she thought it would help him. I shall never forget her ringing words, "I don't think it will help him; I know it will."
