In explaining the nature of Christian Science in the issue of October 6, it is a mistake to declare that this teaching attempts to heal through mental and emotional suggestion. Healing takes place, according to this teaching, through the spiritual understanding that man is the image of God, and that the words of Christ Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," apply to all who obey his teaching. It is not suggestion which heals, but the Christ, "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 583).
