The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

McAllen, Texas (First Church).

Lecturer: Hon. William E. Brown; introduced by William H. Moon, who said:—

The ever increasing numbers that attend the Christian Science lectures are proof that men are realizing more and more the unreliability of matter and are turning their thoughts to a higher source for help and guidance in the solution of daily problems. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 266), Mrs. Eddy quotes, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." The seeming shortage and stringencies of the past few years have brought great numbers to their extremities and in such condition they have turned their thoughts to divine Love for relief. We have on every hand evidence that Christian Science is proving an ever present help that can be relied upon regardless of the need.

I did not come into Christian Science as the result of some unusual healing, but rather grew into this truth after my mother had accepted it, more than twenty years ago; and since that time we have relied wholly upon Christian Science. In this time I have either experienced or witnessed healings of pneumonia, appendicitis, tumor, blood poisoning, the tobacco habit, and many other ills. Here is proof of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

Wilmington, Delaware (First Church).

Lecturer: Professor Hermann S. Hering; introduced by Miss Frances L. Baird, who said:—

From a widespread thought of depression is arising the realization that man must help to bear his brother's burden. To those with whom Jesus had shared his understanding of the healing power of Love he said, "Freely ye have received, freely give;" and he sent them out to preach this gospel. Mary Baker Eddy, an earnest student of the life and teach ings of the Master, realized that the works of Jesus were the result of his understanding of the allness of God, of Truth and Love, the result of his scientific application of the law of unfailing divine Principle, which is just as available to us now as it was when Christ Jesus showed us the way.

Those of us who have had the privilege of studying what Mrs. Eddy has written about this Science, and with the understanding gained from that study have applied its divine Principle to the solving of our daily problems, realize that we have nothing more precious or more helpful to give our brother than the opportunity to learn what Christian Science teaches of the omnipotence of divine Love.
