I became interested in Christian Science in 1910
I became interested in Christian Science in 1910. At that time my husband and I moved to a distant city, where I became acquainted with several of my husband's relatives, who I had heard were students of Christian Science. They reflected so much love and kindness that it was forcibly impressed on my thought, and I readily saw that they had something I did not have. As time went on my respect for their religion grew, since they lived it, never talked it; and I became rather curious as to what Christian Science taught. I then made acquaintance with another lady who was also a student. She lent me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I read the book eagerly.
I had not been feeling well for some time, and I earnestly prayed that if Christian Science was true God would send someone to heal me. Withing an hour a lady knocked at my door and I knew instantly that God had sent her, as she had the same happy and loving expression my relatives had. I did not ask her errand, but drew her into the room and asked her if she was a Christian Scientist. She said that she was a Christian Science practitioner. Needless to say, since then the children and I have had many wonderful proofs of the efficacy of the truth as taught in Christian Science.
Eleven years ago my husband, who had never become interested in Science, passed on, leaving me with five children, the eldest twelve years of age, without any visible means of support. The verse in Isaiah, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee," has sustained me many times when the way seemed dark. The problem of supply has been beautifully solved in all these years, sometimes in such a wonderful manner as to make me feel that I was on holy ground.
