In gratitude I should like to bear witness to the great blessing which has come to me through Christian Science.

In the year 1924 I fell ill with a very severe attack of inflammation of the lungs, which kept me in bed for nearly six months. Because of the high fever which had so weakened me I was unable to be about. In this trying hour a lady of my acquaintance, who had learned of my condition and had heard that I should not live much longer, came to me and told me of Christian Science and of the healings which had been brought about through this religion of love, of which up to that moment I had never heard. I rejoiced over these new tidings, and hoped I too might receive help. I was given several Herolds, which I studied carefully, whereby my confidence in this teaching was strengthened. I sent for a practitioner and asked for help, which was lovingly given.

The hoped-for improvement did not come at once; on the contrary, matters grew worse. Some days later the practitioner visited me a second time, and I was obliged to tell him that my condition had not improved but in my opinion had grown worse. To the practitioner's question whether I had firm faith in God and in the healing religion of Christian Science, I was able to say yes, for it was clear to me that neither human nor medical aid could bring me health. Later this aggravation of the disease was explained to me as due to a false state of consciousness. So I saw that sickness is not reality but an error which was to be corrected. Fear then left me; and improvement was so rapid that the next day I was able to stay up for two hours, and eight days later I could take walks. After a short time I was able to resume my business.
