Shortly after I began the study of Christian Science I...
Shortly after I began the study of Christian Science I heard a testimony given at a Wednesday evening meeting, by a mother, about the healing of her child from croup. The mother declared that as God is Spirit and fills all space there could be no place or room for disease. Very soon the symptoms disappeared and the child was well.
This thought of God was so new and wonderful to me that I thought of little else for some days. At that time my young daughter was suffering from a disease known as arthritis. It was especially noticeable in one leg, which was stiff and painful. A leading doctor, after careful examination, had told me that this disease was in every joint. One evening, as I was still thinking of the simple truth that as God is Spirit and fills all space there could be no room for disease, an inward voice told me to go and tell the child. I at once went into the room where she was in bed and quietly spoke these few words: "You know that God is Spirit?" "Yes," was the answer. "Well, Spirit fills all space; this room is filled with God's presence." I then said good night, left the room, and thought no more about the matter. The disease disappeared and was not heard of again: the healing was instantaneous and complete.
That healing took place twelve years ago. Truth was made manifest. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 365, 366) our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness."—(Mrs.) Sophie Laura Hamerton, Christchurch, New Zealand.
