About seven years ago I was greatly impressed by the changed outlook which Christian Science had brought to a relative. For some years I had scoffed at Christian Science, and I was too proud to admit that I must be mistaken. Shortly afterwards this relative went abroad, and on the day she sailed she sent me a copy of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Rather reluctantly I decided to study it; and though I only read it slowly, I became very much interested. At the time I was suffering from heart attacks which occurred at intervals of about a week. About three months after beginning to read the textbook, I realized that I had not been attacked for several weeks. Since then I have had only one attack, and this was speedily overcome with the help of Christian Science. I am naturally most grateful for this healing, but I am far more grateful for the new understanding of God, and of man in His image and likeness, which effected it.
Shortly after this healing, it seemed right for me to resign my post with a firm of manufacturers. I was very much afraid at the prospect of being unemployed, and, no doubt owing to this fear, I was some months without work. I cannot be sufficiently grateful for the love that was shown me during this experience, and for the courage that my small understanding of Christian Science brought me. Eventually, through the advertising columns of The Christian Science Monitor, I found far happier employment than anything I had ever planned for myself, with ever increasing opportunities for demonstrating the truth which Christian Science is unfolding to me.
Among many other blessings which Christian Science has brought me is the overcoming of a quick temper, of self-consciousness, and of a craving for tobacco. I am also very grateful for a number of physical healings, of which a recent healing of toothache is an example. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the many channels for good that The Mother Church organization provides.—Edward J. Waterhouse, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.
