I wish to express my gratitude for many blessings which have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. Some years ago, while a Sunday school teacher in an orthodox church, I became disturbed at my inability to explain the Bible to my class. I knew that Jesus healed all kinds of disease and said the healing work was for all time; then why could we not heal if we only knew how? I was a great sufferer at that time and had lost all faith in medicine. I had been praying to God to show me the way, and He did, through Christian Science. As soon as I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I knew it was what I had been looking for so long. It explained so many things in the Bible that I could not understand. I just loved the teachings and made many demonstrations, such as the healing of burns, weak ankles, colds, headaches, and constipation.
I would sometimes wonder what I should do if I were hurt or taken very ill. In 1928 I had a chance to prove whether I wanted God or a doctor, when I slipped and turned my ankle, and was thrown down. I declared the truth, knowing that there are no accidents in Mind, and that I was God's child, perfect and harmonious. I got up and walked to the car declaring the truth. We drove to a Christian Scientist and she called a practitioner, who began to work for me. In an hour all pain was gone. It was thought advisable to have a doctor see if there were any bones broken. As I am night supervisor at a training school, I was taken to the school and the doctor took two X-ray pictures. He said that both ankles had been badly sprained and that the fibula was broken, but he had never seen a bone set more perfectly. This was on Tuesday. On Friday something said, "Stand up!" I did. "Now take a step"—and I walked and waited on myself from then on. I got my own meals and went up and down stairs, although slowly, for both ankles were much swollen. Everyone that saw me asked if I did not have any pain. In a very short time the healing was complete, and I can truthfully say that but for the doctor's verdict I would never have known that the bone had been broken; for which I thank God.
I am thankful for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church. I am grateful to God for His wonderful goodness to the children of men; and to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower; also to Mrs. Eddy for her revelation, Christian Science, and to the practitioner who helped me with great love and faithfulness.
