It was not for physical healing that I came into Christian Science. I was studying at a university and, in connection with a philosophical course, I had chosen as the topic of a thesis I had to write, "The Philosophy of Prayer." A friend who had been brought up in the Christian Science Sunday School, knowing my interest in the subject, sent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I read the first chapter, entitled "Prayer," and found that for which I had been diligently seeking, the "pearl of great price" and the true meaning of prayer. From that time to this, over nineteen years, the Christian Science textbook has been my daily inspiration. Through the affirmation of the truth about man's perfection as a child of God and the accompanying denial of the false claims of material sense, I have been healed of frequent and severe attacks of tonsillitis. The last attack occurred about nine years ago. At that time I was instantaneously healed, and I have never had a return of the malady. Nervous indigestion and constipation have also been healed through the prayers of practitioners.

While I appreciate these physical healings, I am especially grateful for the help Christian Science has been to me in my work as a teacher. Each morning before leaving home I take time for quiet reading and silent prayer—the prayer which, as Mrs. Eddy says on page 2 of Science and Health,"cannot change the Science of being," but "tends to bring us into harmony with it." As a result of this, teaching, which has so often been termed irksome and nerve racking, has become for me a happy occupation, a joyous service. The question of discipline has been solved through substituting Principle for person—through knowing that my students, as in reality perfect ideas of God, are obedient to Mind, not to me. Thus harmony in my classroom has been established.

I am so grateful that in those quiet hills of New Hampshire was born one who in her early childhood became so in tune with spiritual things that she was found worthy to be the revelator to this age of the Science of being as demonstrated by Jesus the Christ. As our country loves and honors the name of Abraham Lincoln, so we who strive to be earnest Christian Scientists reverence the name of Mary Baker Eddy.—(Miss) Calphurnia L.
