After finishing my school work I was confronted with physical problems one after another. I had known of Christian Science for years and had received help, having attended the Christian Science Sunday School, but material living meant more to me at that time than gaining an understanding of God. So I tried mixing divine Science with materia medica, osteopathy, and so forth. Finally, everything began to bore me, even people. I found that there were very few whom I could honestly say I loved. I began to search my conscience to find, if possible, what was wrong with my thinking. At a Christian Science church service which I attended one Sunday morning the soloist sang, "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart." The truth of this beautiful song unfolded to me, and I went away rejoicing. Life became more interesting, and as I studied and worked for understanding and prayed for love to be manifested in me I became happier than I had ever been.

I am very grateful for the physical healings which I have experienced, among them being that of mucous colitis, from which I had suffered for years; also chronic appendicitis, goiter, and a nervous breakdown. One ailment that seemed very real was chronic sore throat accompanied with rheumatism. I finally arranged with a physician to have the tonsils taken out, as this suggestion had been with me all the while I had been having Science treatment. After making these arrangements with a physician I was still very undecided. I went home and took up "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read on page 167, "We cannot serve two masters nor perceive divine Science with the material senses;" and farther on, "It is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error;" also, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." Here I made my decision and declared, "I will be healed through Christian Science!" Needless to say, the healing came quickly after this.

I should also like to tell of a very beautiful healing experienced a few years ago, as it has been a great inspiration to me in solving other problems. I was washing a lace collar in a cleaning fluid. Suddenly the wall above the kitchen sink at which I was working became aflame and the front of my dress was ablaze. I immediately turned to my mother, who stood a few feet away, and declared, "Mother, God is Love." She in turn affirmed this truth by declaring, "Yes, God is Love." She picked up a turkish towel and wiped the front of my dress, thus leaving the dress free from fire. It was done as easily and as naturally as one would erase a cipher from a blackboard, but I soon found that my hands were badly burned, and I began to suffer greatly. A practitioner was called and in a short time came to see me. She gave me some helpful thoughts and left saying she would work for me. I was still expressing gratitude and recounting blessings when the pain left, as quickly and as positively as the fire had disappeared from my dress and just as if it had been wiped out. This healing proved to all who knew of the circumstances that Christian Science does heal, and that "the word of God is quick, and powerful."
