Having always known Christian Science and having...
Having always known Christian Science and having been brought up by parents who were Christian Science practitioners, I realize more and more how much I have to be grateful for. I am also most grateful for having had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School for about eighteen years. This background was invaluable in giving me the benefits of divine protection, freedom from fear, and, to a degree, the understanding of infinite Mind in my school work and activities.
However, I am more grateful now for an awakening to the fact that that was only a background, and that I have further work to do, myself, in demonstrating that which before I had taken more or less for granted. I am supremely grateful for class instruction, for this further teaching has, above all, given me a deeper appreciation of Mrs. Eddy and of her place in history, as well as a most humble perception of her largeness of heart and the great tenderness which she felt towards the whole world. Just feeling this spirit through our Leader's writings has enabled me to express more of that divine Love in my home than has any other avenue of help.
I should like to tell of a case of dental surgery which was accomplished through Christian Science treatment. I was about sixteen years old, and one of my second teeth had never come through the gum. No one had thought much about this, until one day when I was having my teeth cleaned by a dentist who knew I was a Christian Scientist, he remarked about the vacant space. Upon examining the gums, he said, "That tooth is lying horizontally in the gum and will either have to have an operation—or Christian Science help." I told my mother what he had said, and she immediately began treatment. In about three weeks I felt a little point of the tooth coming through in the normal place, and it grew in perfectly straight.
