When I was about sixteen years old, it was the opinion of medical specialists that I was suffering from a severe case of ulcer of the stomach. It was their opinion that if I lived on a strict diet for a number of years, the condition might be cleared up, on account of my youth; but they also predicted that my digestion would never be normal. Some years after this it was necessary for me to go into the business world to make a living, and for more than ten years I endured much physical suffering. The stomach condition became worse with the increasing years, and all the money I could spare from my living expenses went to defray medical bills.

All kinds of remedies were tried, and a major operation was performed, in the hope that the trouble might be corrected, but only temporary relief was experienced; and later the condition became so severe that it was deemed necessary to keep me in bed on a liquid diet for a period of about seven weeks. X-ray and other treatments, too numerous to mention, were resorted to, but without avail. During all of this time I was alone, so far as family and relatives were concerned, and was depending on my earning capacity for living expenses. I was so worried and unhappy that a chronic condition of insomnia developed, and at times it did not seem worth while keeping up the struggle of living.

When it seemed that there was nothing else left for me to do, I turned to Christian Science; and I shall never forget the feeling of peace and hope that came to me on my first visit to the practitioner, for I was then ready to put out all doubt and turn trustingly to God. The condition improved immediately after Christian Science treatment was begun, and the healing has been a permanent one. With it came regeneration of character and a realization of higher ideals. Since that time Christian Science has been my only physician. It has become the great beacon light of my life; and for many years I have been a happy, well, and normal person.
