In a recent issue you publish a letter from a correspondent. Allow me to say that he has failed to distinguish between Mind, God, and the so-called human or carnal mind, which Paul says is "enmity against God." It was the divine Mind which enabled Jesus to walk on the water, to multiply the loaves and fishes, to heal the sick, and to raise the dead. The carnal mind could do none of these things. Paul tells us to let this Mind be in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." The study of Christian Science is enabling thousands to gain this Mind, with its attendant health and harmony. Your correspondent declares, "Truth teaches the real man is the man of substance, who lives by breathing, and dies when breathing ceases; injury to the body causes a suspension of the mind; when his breath goeth forth his thoughts perish—such is the declaration of Psalm 146:4." The Psalmist is here referring to mortal man, of whom Jesus said, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do." Christian Science teaches, in accordance with the first chapter of Genesis, that man is made in the image and likeness of God, spiritual, harmonious, eternal, perfect. This teaching is demonstrable, and results in that freedom which was promised by Jesus when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
