I am glad to have this opportunity of expressing my gratitude to Christian Science for all the blessings that have been brought into my life since I came into contact with it. For a good many years I had been in poor health; and although various material remedies were tried, I did not get any better. On the contrary, I became gradually worse, until the time came when I broke down altogether. I had to give up business and go into a nursing home. There seemed to be nothing to look forward to but ill health and unhappiness.
Then it was that Christian Science came and knocked at the door. Someone known to my relatives claimed to have been greatly benefited by Christian Science; and so, as a last resort but with very little hope, I decided to see what it could do for me. I applied to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for treatment. The result was that I at once experienced healing. Several ailments that had made my life a burden for years dropped away almost at once. My sense of relief was great, and I was full of gratitude. But it was not so much the deliverance from ill health that I felt so grateful for, but rather because I had found a satisfactory and satisfying explanation of life.
I had been brought up in a religious home and had a fair knowledge of the Bible, but it never seemed to me of much practical value. The New Testament narratives were beautiful and uplifting, and also many of the incidents recorded in the Old Testament; but it never seemed to be expected that we were to try and carry out Jesus' commands to heal the sick, and no definite rule was given whereby the teaching of the Bible might be made practical in everyday life. The moment I opened the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I saw that here was what I had been looking for. It was indeed the "key" to the Scriptures. It explained to me how the healings wrought by our Master, Christ Jesus, were accomplished, and how every one of us can follow in a measure in his footsteps and do the works he did by obeying the same divine Principle.
