When I was a small child a loved one in my family was...

When I was a small child a loved one in my family was healed in Christian Science after all material remedies had failed. The healing occurred in the West; but while credit was always given to Christian Science, after my return home the study was not continued, although the healing was permanent. Years afterward, another member of the family became ill with appendicitis and was told by physicians that the only help was an operation, and that it must not be delayed. We again turned to Christian Science, and this condition was also healed, with no return.

I had said many times that Christian Science was all right for all my family, but that I did not need it. I had good health; but as time went on, and so many blessings came to the family, I decided one morning that I would go to the Christian Science church. I went seeking peace and happiness. I knew Christian Science had healed physical ailments, and I felt that it could give me happiness. I did not understand all that was read from the desk, but I did feel the peace and contentment that I was seeking. It did not take me long to turn to the study in earnest.

The first physical healing I received occurred during one Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I was suffering from a severe cold, with all the mortal beliefs which accompany such a condition. The thought again came to me that I could receive good at church. I started out through snow, ice, and water. Several times I was tempted to return home on account of wet feet; but, as our beloved Leader says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 226, 227), "I pressed on through faith in God, trusting Truth, the strong deliverer, to guide me into the land of Christian Science, where fetters fall and the rights of man are fully known and acknowledged." I returned home entirely free. I had been healed during the service. Since then we have had many blessings come to us through the application of this wonderful truth.

I find great joy in our Master's words to Martha, "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." We need to do as Mary did — listen to the "still small voice."

I am so grateful to God for His goodness, and to Mrs. Eddy that through her pure, loving, God-inspired life she left not one thing undone for our instruction and guidance. It is a joy to be in the service of God. My daily prayer is to be a more loving, obedient Christian Scientist, and to be worthy of the name.
