Christian Science came to me at a time when I thought...

Christian Science came to me at a time when I thought the sun in my life had gone down never to rise. I felt that the supply for myself and my family depended entirely on me. I had forgotten Jesus' words, "I can of mine own self do nothing." But since that time Christian Science has proved to me many times that God "is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." When I seemed to be in the deepest doubt and anxiety, my sister, whom I had not seen for five years, visited me and told me about Christian Science, asking me to attend a morning service the following Sunday in a city near by. I was so deeply impressed with the simple, but very beautiful service, and also with the joy and happiness expressed by those present, that on being invited to go to the Reading Room, I purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

During the next two weeks, while my sister was with me, we talked very little about Christian Science; but when I was alone again I read this wonderful book every moment possible. I had never been strong, and was subject to severe sick headaches, as well as numerous other diseases. After reading a few weeks, I was able to overcome the headache. For several years before I took up the study I would have the grippe two or three times during the winter. The following winter I did not have it, and did not think of it.

There was no Christian Science church or Christian Scientist in the town where I lived; but I had my book and read it, and kept well. I soon learned to trust God for my supply, and did not need a practitioner until I knew where to find one, which was over a year later. That year of quiet study and learning to know God as divine Love, as infinite Mind, is very dear to me yet.
