[Written for the Sentinel]

Spirit is Substance

Spirit is substance; dwelling in light,
God knows nor discord, sorrow, nor night.
This troubled earth-life—how real it seems!—
Is but a shadow, fleeting as dreams;
Radiant beyond it Truth's morning gleams.
God is our refuge; seeking His face
Beneath the seeming, Love's purpose we trace.

Love omnipresent, limitless, free!
From Thee we come, we live, move in Thee;
Thy light, Thy glory filleth all space;
Fear has no power, evil no place;
Nor height nor depth can obscure Thy grace.
Spirit is substance; dwelling in light,
God knows nor discord, sorrow, nor night.
