[Original testimony in German]
"What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that...
"What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." This exhortation of the Master to his disciples has become for me a guiding star. In the spring of 1923, when I was taken with a serious bowel complaint (fistula), the physician advised an operation, to be followed probably by a long time in bed, because the healing would take place slowly. My first thought was of Christian Science, of which I had heard before, and about which I had read. I went to a Christian Science practitioner and found there the most friendly welcome and treatment. The practitioner must have had great patience with me, for it took months for the understanding of the truth to come to me, and for fear and doubt to disappear. I was often despondent and discouraged, but the practitioner's constant kindness and assurance, as well as the assiduous study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science periodicals, and attendance at the services and meetings of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Hamburg, brought me understanding. In the light of Truth fear and doubt disappeared, and with them the illness. I can simply state that the joy which I experienced when the trouble left me is unequaled.
My heart is filled with gratitude for God's great goodness; also, with gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who through her discovery is leading mankind to happiness, and to the practitioner for his kindness and patience. It is my heartfelt desire that all mankind may enter into the understanding of the truth of being. Then will there forever be peace on earth.
Emil Heiden, Bergedorf, nr. Hamburg, Germany.
