When my baby was two months old, I took a trip to...
When my baby was two months old, I took a trip to the Yosemite Valley, where I hiked or rode horseback to the various points of interest. On my return home severe hemorrhages began, and I was compelled to remain in bed for months. The condition became so alarming that my physician suggested an operation, to which I consented. Immediately after the operation I suffered intense pain for days, followed by nervous prostration with an extreme condition of anæmia. For weeks I could hardly bear to let any one talk to me or touch me on my bed. Upon my return home from the hospital the hemorrhages were more alarming, and my sister desired me to rely entirely on Christian Science; but I turned from Christian Science to materia medica and back to Christian Science again, having several practitioners. I realize now it was not the fault of the practitioners, but lack of faith in my own consciousness that prevented my healing.
Not having lost my faith in doctors and still being in great fear, I was persuaded by my physician to have X-ray treatments, which he assured me would result in a cure. I took the prescribed number, but grew worse rather than better. At this time I had been in bed for two years, and was fighting a mental battle with what seemed to be another power,—evil. I called my physician on the telephone and asked him what more could be done, and he told me I could take no more X-ray treatments as there was danger of a burn which could not be healed, and that further treatments would be of no benefit. He then advised an operation to remove the organs that caused the trouble, but I would not consent.
"Man's extremity is God's opportunity." I turned to God absolutely for my healing, and called in a Christian Science practitioner. In the meantime, the nurse had telephoned my husband to return home as our baby was quite ill with chronic bowel trouble and very high fever. I knew nothing of her condition until a few minutes before the practitioner arrived. My husband, having been a druggist for over twenty years, was very much opposed to Christian Science; but a ten-minute talk with the practitioner convinced him of the truth and practicability of Christian Science, and he consented to have treatment for the child. She was healed instantaneously, and within an hour was romping about. She has had no return of the complaint.
