Many times, when reading testimonies of healing that have been so unselfishly given to the periodicals for publication, I have been thrilled with the proofs of God's power. Many times these messengers of Love have entered homes where all had become despondent and discouraged, and have brought new life, new joy, new hope, touching the hardest heart and bringing peace and comfort to the sorrowing. One morning, when hearing a testimony read, I remembered that I too had a story, equally as true and just as astounding, which I might give, and which perchance might help some wayfarer and encourage him to press on with renewed vigor.
For years I suffered untold agony, and finally had exhausted every means of relief from materia medica. I was examined by one of the best doctors in our state, and he diagnosed my case as ulcers of the stomach. I kept getting worse, suffering intensely from pain, day and night, until life seemed of little worth. One day, while in the city, I arranged with the head surgeon at a hospital for an operation the following day. In fear and trembling I went to my hotel to await the time. As I sat in the office thinking how dark and gloomy my future looked, I received a message from my wife requesting me to return home on account of the illness of her mother. I immediately went home, to find her mother in a very critical condition. The doctors thought she could not last more than a day or two, for she had taken no nourishment for days and medicine was of no benefit.
A Christian Scientist who lived a few miles away came like a messenger of Love, and told us the same story that Christ Jesus told nineteen hundred years ago. We listened to her with much less faith than Thomas had, as she repeated the message that Mrs. Eddy gave to humanity. However, we decided to try anything that offered relief, but with no hope of favorable results. We called a practitioner, and with her loving and untiring help, the patient was about the house in less than four weeks, making steady strides to health and happiness. This was more than five years ago, and she is now in perfect health. Let me add here that as soon as we saw what Christian Science was and what it really could do, we had a house cleaning and destroyed all the medicine that had accumulated for years; and Christian Science has been our only medicine since that time.
