In the year 1914 I was in a sanitarium for tuberculosis
In the year 1914 I was in a sanitarium for tuberculosis. I was a physical wreck, and all who knew me thought I had not long to live. When I had been there about eight months, I found a copy of The Christian Science Journal. I read over the testimonies, never doubting the truth of them, and knew that I had as much right to be healed by Christian Science as any one. I secured a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and after reading for two months I decided to leave the sanitarium. The doctor examined me before I left, as is the custom there, and told me that the apex of my right lung was consolidated; that I could not work at my trade as a barber, but would have to stay in the open air; and that exertion of any kind might prove fatal. I came home and asked for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. About ten months later I was examined by three doctors, and they said my lungs were in perfect condition. I was healed of blood poisoning in four days, of influenza in eighteen days; and stomach disorder, bowel trouble, heart disease, and nervousness have been overcome.
Seven years ago I planned a trip to the West. Arrangements were made to leave at nine o'clock on a Sunday evening. On Saturday an attack of acute indigestion came on. I went to bed and stayed there until seven o'clock on Sunday evening. I took the train for Chicago at nine o'clock, arriving there at ten o'clock on Monday morning. While waiting to change trains at Chicago, I became unconscious of where I was, and was conscious only that I was declaring the truth to the best of my understanding. In about an hour I was healed of this condition, and continued my trip.
For these and many other blessings I am very grateful. To know that the goal is perfect peace and harmony, and that Christian Science is teaching me the way to this goal, is the greatest blessing that has come into my life.
