An experience came to me several years ago which taught me a lesson that I wish never to forget. I am sending it, thinking it may be helpful to others as it was to me.

As I was crossing my room quickly one morning, my foot came in contact with the sharp end of the rocker on a small sewing chair, hurting my instep. I went on with my work and thought no more about my foot, until two days afterwards, when I noticed that it was black and blue, swollen, and sore to the touch. I, however, paid no attention to it even then. Several weeks later I met with a similar accident, striking my foot on the same place, in the same way. This time I stood still and declared the truth until the pain ceased, then, as before, thought no more of it.

Soon after this I collided with a rocker in the dark, striking the same place on my instep a very cruel blow. The suffering was intense, so much so that I could not move or think, except to say, "God is Love," until I collected my thoughts. As the pain subsided I declared and tried to realize God's allness until I could take a step. I then sat down, and went to work in earnest. I did my mental work this time as thoroughly as I knew how, allowing no material interest to take me away before it was finished; for I did not get up until, having declared God's omnipresence and omniaction and tried to realize it to the best of my understanding, I had filled my thought full of truth and held it there until it had destroyed the fear of after effects, as well as all soreness and suffering, and my foot felt perfectly normal. I could then get up, and thank God and rejoice for this glorious truth that always delivers us, if we do our part faithfully. I wish to say that from this last accident, which was much more severe than the two previous ones, I had not a particle of soreness, discoloration, or lameness. I have never experienced the least trouble from it since, nor have I had a recurrence of a similar accident. I learned the lesson that error of every kind, small or great, should be met quickly with the truth of being, when matter claims intelligence and sensation, knowing, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 108), that it "is the false testimony of false material sense, of mind in matter," that is the trouble, and that Truth can and will destroy it.
