In 1920 my daughter was ill, and we asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. A doctor ascertained that she was suffering from pleurisy, chronic chest catarrh, and a tendency toward rheumatism of the joints. He ordered that the child go to bed at once, and that we apply hot sandbag poultices. We knew, however, that the child was under the protection of the Almighty, and so we did not carry out the order.
The practitioner most lovingly took the case of the little girl, who was then two and a half years old; and a week later she was well again. As the doctor was occasionally in the house on some other business, he asked that he might see the child. He was very much surprised to hear that we had not followed his orders. He then left, saying that there was a great change in the child, and that she was well.
A few months later the child had an attack of measles. Having received our first blessing in Christian Science through God's all-powerful goodness, we confidently called upon the practitioner for help. Again she lovingly began to work. After the second treatment the fever and the cough abated, and the child asked to be allowed to get up. Her face was not yet clear, but we denied the error and knew that she was always in God's almighty care and under His protection. Within six days our daughter was able to play in the open, joyous and hearty.
