[Written for the Sentinel]
A Prayer of Petition
O Father-Mother God , teach me Thy will
And on my waiting sense now send a gleam
Of healing truth, to break the restless dream
Of mortal life. Thy law in me fulfill.
Let me all selfishness resign,—until
The glory of thy meekness sheds its beam
Along my path; and, should I fearful seem,
Grant me more love, all fear and sin to kill.
Bless me with treasure from Thine ample store
Of good for all Thy children everywhere.
May I rich fruitage in Thy service find,
And high above the mists of error soar,
Gaining the vision of my answered prayer,
In thoughts love-laden, and in actions kind.
