Problems

In the demonstration of the harmony of true being, the advancing thought encounters what it pleases to call problems; and it is well to look upon false claims, whatever their seeming character may be, as nothing more than problems which are to be met and overcome. On the other hand, to make a reality of a problem, as such, is simply to admit the reality of evil in another form. Infinite Mind does not meet with problems, for it already knows all and includes all. Creation is complete now in accord with the Principle of perfection; therefore to infinite Mind there is nothing to overcome, nor can it possibly pass through periods of struggle and depression. Thus advancing thought can only encounter the unfoldment of good, which is never problematic but of necessity is open and free in its simplicity.

The fundamental point to be understood, as Christian Science teaches, is, that perfection is the basis of reality and is expressed; whereas the supposititious opposite of perfection, called matter, mortality, is not real, because it lacks the divine cause which is infinite Mind. With the false belief of matter and mortality reduced to its native nothingness, a man, knowing that man is the expression of infinite Mind, sees only clear sailing before him and he realizes that as "with God all things are possible," so with man, God's reflection, all things are possible. What place, then, have problems in his thought? Looking only for the unfoldment of good, expecting only to see it manifested, realizing perfection as the only reality, he finds that the harmony of being becomes his experience.

In the light of metaphysics, a false claim and a so-called problem are one and the same thing, and in "Unity of Good" (p. 54) Mrs. Eddy in speaking of false claims says: "To say there is a false claim, called sickness, is to admit all there is of sickness; for it is nothing but a false claim. To be healed, one must lose sight of a false claim. If the claim be present to the thought, then disease becomes as tangible as any reality. To regard sickness as a false claim, is to abate the fear of it; but this does not destroy the so-called fact of the claim. In order to be whole, we must be insensible to every claim of error." To be insensible to every claim of error is to be conscious right at that point of the truth that God alone governs man and that there is nothing outside of the infinity of His government that can put in a claim of any kind. Just as Christ Jesus proved throughout his entire ministry that demand is met instantaneously with supply, so is it true that problem and solution are one. In Isaiah we read: "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." This statement is absolutely scientific, and absolute Science is the only thing to be dealt with, because it is positive; and in proportion as we stand for what we know to be true will we experience harmony. Christian Science is more than a theory, it is based on demonstrable Principle; it always has been operative and always will be operative; it is man's birthright and there is no power that can keep it from him.
