For some time I have felt the desire to express my gratitude for Christian Science through the medium of the Sentinel. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was introduced into my family when I was a child. While reading it for the first time my mother was entirely healed of severe periodic headaches and also of a yearly attack of illness which used to keep her in bed for several weeks every winter, during which attacks she coughed night and day. She has never suffered from these troubles since. For many years Christian Science has been our only physician and it has entirely met our every need in sickness and in health. The happiness and harmony of our home, the peace and love we feel toward each other and toward all mankind is the result of the teaching of Christian Science and the light that has been thrown on the Bible. That we are healthy, happy, free from care, and full of joy and confidence, we feel we owe to a growing understanding of God as revealed through Christian Science.
Speaking for myself, though familiar with the teachings of Christian Science from childhood and having experienced continual blessings, I have found that I have had to prove what I know in order to make those blessings my own and have many times had to choose whom I would serve. With an increasing watchfulness against the mesmerism of mortal mind, I am having to learn many lessons in humility and love and I am deeply grateful for spiritual enlightenment and for some little progress in spiritual understanding. Nothing can remove the landmarks of God or reverse the truth that we are daily proving in countless ways to be the greatest remedial, regenerating, and spiritualizing power in the world to-day. I am unable to express in words my love and veneration for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I can only strive with increasing earnestness to be worthy of her. The magnitude of her work is beyond human understanding at this present time, and only Love, lived and demonstrated, can reveal it.
For our church organization, the Christian Science publications, and all the helpful activities of The Mother Church I am also deeply grateful.
