"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to...
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High." I should like to express my gratitude and describe the blessing which has come to me through Christian Science. Twelve years ago I contracted a terrible lung trouble, according to the medical verdict. In desperation I appealed to God when I saw no other way out. It was nighttime, and, on the evening before, a specialist had told me I could never hope to be well again. The following morning at eight o'clock and after the msot terrible night of my life, my prayer was answered. My husband, who had gone out, returned and told me of Christian Science. An acquaintance who knew of my condition had told him that Christian Science was the only help, and naturally I reached out for it with both hands, as it were. I requested help and a practitioner explained to me the truth about our loving, almighty, and omnipotent God as we are taught to know Him in Christian Science. After the lady had completed her first treatment I felt a heavy burden lifted from me, my heart beat normally and I felt that the intense fear had left me. I fairly devoured the copies of Der Herold, read the whole day, and the contents took possession of my thinking. After approximately eight weeks my voice returned (for almost a year I had been unable to speak aloud) and within seven months I was perfectly healed.
My husband, who was suddenly unable to ride a bicycle on account of abdominal trouble, was healed in a few treatments. I became a regular attendant at the church services. Two years later I experienced a painless childbirth. When this child was nine months old one of its arms was dislocated; the arm hung limp and the child cried a great deal. I declared the omnipotence of God and did not allow myself to become confused by the crying. After some time my husband took the child and walked the floor trying to console him. At last my husband returned him to me still crying. I held firmly to the omnipotence of God, when suddenly the child lifted the arm and in the same moment commenced to laugh. From that moment on my husband also knew, not only believed, that Christian Science may be proved on all occasions.
I could write a whole book of testimonies of healings which took place during the following years, but the greatest blessing is the mental healing. My thinking became constantly clearer and my true being as the child of God is appearing, free from the fetters of materiality. I have learned to know the impersonality of error. My prayer is that all people may learn to claim their God-given inheritance; then the kingdom of God on earth, peace and love among all nations would be fulfilled, and one language, one tongue, would be heard. I owe Mrs. Eddy endless gratitude. I pray daily that I may be a true Christian Scientist, and I endeavor to guard my thoughts from wrong.
