[Written for the Sentinel]
Guerdon
Father
of lights! Our Father!
What shall the guerdon be,
For many a grim encounter
With the waves of a surging sea?
"Many a vessel, tempest tossed,
From the power of the storm set free."
Father of lights! Our Father!
For many an hour of prayer,
With fear cast out and self denied,
What answer shall we hear?
"Whatsoever in my name ye shall ask
Shall in fullness of time appear."
Father of lights! Our Father!
Show us Thy changeless will;
Teach us to quell the tempest,
To fear no threatening ill,
Knowing that we, Thy children,
May claim dominion still!
