It is quite evident that neither the correspondent "J. H. C." nor the authority he quotes has ever read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," otherwise he would never have attached his initials to the statement that the kernel of Christian Science is: "The human mind is God, and can therefore heal." Not only is the statement obviously absurd, but it is in flat contradiction to the definite teaching of Christian Science. In her Preface to Science and Health Mrs. Eddy makes it as plain as the English language can state it that the human mind is not a factor in Christian Science healing. The mortal, human mind she certainly describes as the cause of all sin and its effects, just as surely as she attributes to divine Mind the only power to heal and save. And all through her writings she makes the distinction perfectly clear.
