Christian Science is based wholly upon the Scriptures...

Longmont (Colo.) Call

Christian Science is based wholly upon the Scriptures, wherein we read that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," and "All things were made by him [Spirit]; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Throughout the Bible the omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, yea, the allness and onlyness of Spirit and the spiritual creation, are both implicitly and explicitly taught and proved; this affirmative spiritual teaching of the Bible necessarily carries with it the complete negation of the carnal mind with all its conceptions of matter as an intelligent reality. Of course the most perfect exemplification and verification of this truth was furnished in the words and works of Christ Jesus. Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 264), "Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit," and it was the lens of spiritual understanding which enabled the Master to see all things aright, and thus become, as he said, the Way-shower for all mankind. Now no one would accuse Jesus of being a pantheist, and Christian Science, being the reinstatement of his preaching and practice, is absolutely spiritual monism and naught else.... It must be remembered that Christ Jesus established his church, not on creeds, but on deeds; for he said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." When John the Baptist sent to inquire of him if he were the Christ, the Master replied, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached." Christian Scientists are humbly grateful that the Scriptures have been so illuminated for them by Science and Health that they are enabled to accept the unanswerable test of discipleship given by Jesus; for Christian Science is known by, and has grown because of, its fruits. Through these fruits of good works the love, compassion, and help of the one Father-Motehr God are made manifest in the most practical and satisfying manner.
