Nine years ago Christian Science healed me of ailments from which I had suffered for years. I had never been able to work hard a whole day without lying down part of the time, and always kept whisky and morphine in the house, as I trusted in them for relief from pain and weakness. All my life I had suffered from chronic liver complaint, and one doctor said there was an internal malignant growth. Besides these ailments I had stomach trouble for many years and drank nothing at meals, not being able to retain the food if I did. I was bent with suffering in my back, and had not straightened up for seven weeks. It seemed as if the end were near, as there was no rest for me in any position. Grief at the passing on of a loved daughter was also weighing me down.

When a dear sister asked me to try Christian Science, I had taken medicine until it no longer seemed to do me any good. At my request my husband reluctantly took me to see a practitioner. He drove up to the walk and helped me very carefully into the buggy to go there, and we sat in it while the practitioner talked to us. He told us to go to the reading room and buy the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which we did, afterwards driving to my sister's house. I stepped out of the buggy and walked up six steps to the porch before thinking of my back. Then I realized that I was straight, and I have never been bent with suffering since. I had been a light sleeper all the years of ill health, but slept like a baby the first night after treatment. My husband had suffered with his feet for several years, and they were growing worse all the time, but he heard all that the practitioner said to me and was healed. We went to the practitioner each day for one week. In all the years since, I have never been sick more than a few hours.

So many blessings have come to us in Christian Science that I could not express all my gratitude in words, but try to do so in my living. I have had the great privilege of class instruction and have been able to give out some of the gems of truth that have been given to me. Christian Science has been our guide mentally, physically, and in our daily affairs ever since we turned to it. Through Christian Science treatment one of our daughters was healed of an acute throat trouble in a very short time, the obstruction being gone from her throat in four days. No words can express my gratitude to our beloved Leader, who was so pure in heart that she could receive the inspiration of Truth which she has given us. Our literature is a source of pleasure and help to me, and I could not do without it.
