[Written for the Sentinel]
Communion
Prepare
my heart, O God,
To worship Thee aright;
Then shall I sing Thy praise
However dark the night.
And teach me how to pray
The prayer of faith, and see
The all-encircling good
Thou hast prepared for me.
Then would I sacrifice
All thoughts of selfishness,
And pour my treasures forth,
Humanity to bless;
Thus would Truth purify
My motives day by day,
And keep my consciousness,
That Love may with me stay:
And thus I would commune
With Thee—with Life and Love—
And hide my treasures all
With Thee in heaven above.
