I have always appreciated the testimonies in the Journal...

I have always appreciated the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel, and have often been helped by them; and now my own is sent in gratitude for what Christian Science, through its many channels, has done for me. Twelve years ago I had never heard of Christian Science. We were living in Scotland at the time, and I was very wretched, having just lost my second child. My trust in God seemed to fail me, the Bible appeared contradictory and confusing, and there seemed nowhere to turn for comfort.

At this point friends brought Christian Science to my notice, and it was the change I saw in them that convinced me there must be something in this religion. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, at once became convinced of its truth, and found comfort. To learn that God is Love, "a very present help in trouble," was a revelation to me, for I had always believed that He sent afflictions to punish us. I immediately began to benefit by reading this book, and all faith in material remedies left me, although for years I had never gone a week without taking medicine of some kind for sick headaches and biliousness. These ailments left me gradually as I grasped the understanding of Christian Science and put into practice what I understood. Throat trouble and other discordant conditions were instantly overcome, and severe illnesses arrested, so that I have not been laid up for one day since taking up the study of this Science. Many faults of character have been eradicated. The overcoming of fear for my only child was the hardest struggle and was slow, but one day such a clear sense of the allness of God came to me that this fear left and the child gained in health and happiness from that time. I have learned that it is the Mind which was in Christ Jesus that heals and saves, and it is only through endeavoring to reflect this divine Mind that I can hope to be free from the ills of the flesh.

I cannot express in words my gratitude for Christian Science and for what it has done for me and mine. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her beautiful life of love and unselfishness, and my desire is to grow in grace so that I may become a true Christian Scientist.—(Mrs.) Adelina M. Cooper, Solihull, near Birmingham, England.
