I feel that the time has come for me to give my experience...
I feel that the time has come for me to give my experience in Christian Science healing, which took place in November, 1894. Two or three years prior to this time, a student of Mrs. Eddy came to Richmond, Indiana. Through her work some remarkable healing resulted, and the good news spread to other cities and towns. One of the people healed was a lady who had been pronounced incurable. After her restoration to health this lady, learning that a friend near Pendleton, Indiana, had been given but a short time to live by the physicians, made him a visit, armed with her new found faith in spiritual healing, and a copy of The Christian Science Journal. She related her experience and left the Journal, which he read and reread until he was able to leave his bed. This Journal referred to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," so he procured a copy of this book, and through its study was completely healed.
This gentleman, hearing of my illness, came to see me, I, too, was confined to the bed. He told me his experience and talked to me for about an hour. His explanation of the teachings of Christian Science appealed so strongly to me that for some time after he left I lay in a deep study, finally awakening, as it seemed, to the realization that something had taken place—all sense of discouragement and care was gone. I soon understood that this was spiritual healing, for a wonderful peace had come to me. I arose and dressed, walked about the rooms of my home, and then out into our place of business and back. This was about four o'clock in the afternoon. I took my place at the table that evening and ate the first good meal which I had eaten for months, with no ill effects, and that night I slept like a child. I believe mine was the first case of Christian Science healing in this city.
I faithfully studied our textbook, and the following year received class instruction from Mrs. Eddy's student, already mentioned.—Franklin B. Wallace, Anderson, Ind.
