New Days
A correspondent accuses me of offering no defense to the gravest charges he has felt it his duty to bring against the teachings of Christian Science. If he likes to think it his duty to spend his time in stating what Mrs. Eddy does not teach, he is quite entitled to do so, but he need not expect a Christian Scientist who is conversant with her teachings to spend his time in denying each specific statement. Let us take one example. The critic declares, for instance, that Mrs. Eddy "denied the omniscience of the creator." Now in her writings there are no less than fifteen places where she has definitely affirmed the omniscience of God.
Jesus, when persecuted, "opened not his mouth," we are told. Has our critic ever wondered why? Simply because he did not need to. Truth vindicates itself. This is precisely what Christian Science is doing. The Master said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." The countless sick and sinning who are being healed and regenerated through the beneficent influence of Christian Science are far more powerful to convince humanity than are the negative statements of our critic.
