The Lectures

Since May 11, 1913, Christian Science services have been held in Sing Sing prison, Ossining, N. Y., every week, under the auspices of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, New York city. Much Christian Science literature has been distributed to the inmates, with the result that a great many cases of physical and moral healing have taken place. So much genuine interest in Christian Science has been expressed by the men, that a lecture on the subject was delivered by Virgil O. Strickler on Dec. 27, 1914. The speaker was introduced by Charles E. von Heitman of New York city, who said:—

The object of our gathering here this morning is to hear a lecture on Christian Science, the purpose of which is to give us a better understanding of the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. That Christian Science is succeeding in its purpose of making clear to mankind the great truths of the Bible, is evidenced by the fact that throughout the world today thousands of intelligent, dependable people are publicly acknowledging the benefits they have received through it. I am going to avail myself of this opportunity to say that I know from my own experience that Christian Science heals the sick, and restores hope and happiness here and now to any one who will earnestly study and practise its teachings.

It has been wisely said that the point or place at which we find ourselves if of little importance compared to the direction in which we are going, and we all know that if we follow the dictates of our highest sense of good, nothing can by any means divert us from the right course. It is a great pleasure to be present at this lecture, and I wish to thank the authorities for the privilege of holding it.—Correspondence.
