Christian Science has done so much for me that I wish to...
Christian Science has done so much for me that I wish to tell something of the good I have received through its teaching. Early in the fall of 1911 I suffered from what appeared to be a general breakdown. I was examined by two physicians, who agreed that it would be advisable for me to take the tubercular cure. I began this treatment at once, and seemed to improve a little at first. It was not long, however, before I broke down completely with nervous exhaustion, and from that time on I received no help or relief from any material remedies. I was in bed three months during my illness. I suffered so much from nervousness, pain, and lack of sleep, that when Christian Science was recommended to one of the family by an acquaintance, we were glad to try it, although we knew almost nothing about it. We secured the services of a practitioner, and I experienced immediate relief, but my complete healing covered a period of several months.
For fifteen years previous to my illness I had suffered a great deal with my eyes. I was never able to use them in the evening, and could do so very little in the daytime. I invariably sat in the dark at night to avoid the pain occasioned by the light. After I began taking Christian Science treatments and was able to read a little, I put my glasses on, but I found them so uncomfortable that I took them off, and have never put them on since. I cannot express my gratitude for being free from all trouble with my eyes.
I had all my life been closely associated with an orthodox church, and had taught in the Sunday school for a number of years, but for some time before my illness I felt very dissatisfied and longed for a more practical religion. When Christian Science was brought to me and I began to understand its teachings, I realized that my desire had been fulfilled, and since then I have enjoyed better health and greater happiness than I have ever known before. I can but feebly express my thankfulness to God for this truth, and I am most deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy that she has made it available to us in this age.
