"Several months of study" are credited with having equipped the clergyman quoted in a recent issue, to condemn Christian Science as unchristian, because, among other things, "it denies the existence of sin, whereas the Bible specifically recognizes sin and denounces it as the curse of the race." Yet on page 29 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." the text-book of Christian Science, it is averred that "Christians ... must grapple with sin in themselves and in others, and continue this warfare until they have finished their course." And on page 37 we read, "Does not Science show that sin brings suffering as much today as yesterday? They who sin must suffer." Christian Science attracts those who would rather be equipped with a demonstrable method of overcoming sin than hear the most scholarly discussion of the origin and qualities of sin. And the same is true as to sickness and other discordant conditions. It should be added that "several months of study" may afford one less actual knowledge of Christian Science than several hours of openminded testing of its simplest rules.
