It is with deep thankfulness to God that I send this testimony to the Sentinel in acknowledgement of the manifold benefits which have come to me since I took up the study of Christian Science. It is several years since I heard of this teaching. At the time I was journeying home from South America, and while in New York I attended my first Christian Science church servie. I remember very little about that service save that it pleased me. Christian Science appealed to me as soon as I heard about it, and the point which first drew and claimed my attention was the Christian Science concept of God,—that He is Love, the creator of good, and good only, and because He is Love, He is not the creator and source of disease, want, woe, and the myriad troubles and miseries which we had been taught that God sent us for our good.
When this new concept of God dawned upon me, I embraced it joyfully; and when I began to realize dimly the great truth that God is the only power and is all-powerful, I remember thinking to myself, If that is so, He is more powerful than an incurable disease; and this was the God I wanted to know about and learn to worship. I had always believed God to be all-powerful theoretically, but not until I began the study of Christian Science did I begin to learn that His pwoer is a demonstrable fact, always present, and available to mankind at all times.
I have experienced the healing power of Christian Science physically, mentally, and morally, and for all this I am very grateful. One of the first physical healings I received was of a hard, troublesome cough which I had had several winters in succession, and which lasted weeks and even months. All the material remedies I took failed to heal me, but after reading Science and Health I was healed. Till this last winter, when I had a slight attack which was quickly overcome with Science treatment, I have not been troubled with a cough of any kind for the last five years.
